Weekly Groups

Arty-Folks offers a programme of four weekly art groups combined with 1:1 mentoring and coaching that supports people to anchor and thrive in the community.  Only one group can be attended as groups are structured into measurable and progressive stepping stones of personal and artistic development.  The programme can be accessed any Wednesday at Holyhead Studios 12.30-2.30 throughout the year apart from 2 weeks at Christmas/New Year.

Experienced Visual Artists facilitate the groups and structure activities so that people learn new creative skills and to express themselves through a wide range of medium and processes including ceramics, painting, drawing, sculpture, textile, etc.

Alongside art workshops, 1:1 Mentoring and Coaching supports beneficiaries to chart their journey through quarterly questionnaires and through well-being discussions identify and resolve wider issues that may hinder their progress.

Wednesdays 12.30-2.30

Gateway group at Holyhead Studios CV1 3AU is where your journey with Arty-Folks begins.  You can build foundation art skills and creative confidence in the company of your peers. We also provide you with information of other opportunities in the community that can help you increase health and well-being.

Making Headway

a group for young adults 18-30 year old who are struggling to map their own way forward.  We help people to tell their story through a powerful visual language and to build high quality art portfolios to start College or University.  We provide 1:1 support to address barriers and enable access to further opportunities in the community.

Progression Art Group

for adults who successfully completed Gateway group and who are committed to their own personal journey to recovery.  Art projects will help you increase confidence and explore creative ways of seeing and thinking.  1:1 mentoring and a peer-led social programme will support you to increase health and well-being.

Making Way Art Group

our most advanced group for people in volunteering and who are preparing for employment.  Art projects are designed to engage you in constructive and positive debates about art and all things human with your peers and will build your resilience to withstand knock backs in life.

For me Arty-Folks was not about becoming a great artist, it was about mending or improving myself through art.  I believe Arty-Folks approach to therapeutic art has taught me how to look into my own self and understand more of the emotions and character traits that shape my behaviour, so to better know how to bring out the best in myself. It was also great to work with a group of mutually supportive peers and staff, who genuinely care about each other.

After four years I have reached the next stage of my recovery and will be leaving Arty-Folks but will miss it greatly.   I feel probably for the first time at home, safe and a part of the community, with friends to call on, and with interests and hobbies that make me feel my life is worth living. I would recommend Arty-Folks to anyone who is looking for support to turn their lives around.”

We upload on Facebook every week the latest artwork by people who attend our groups. Photos include comments made by the person who created the work and this will give you an insight to what you can expect and what you can achieve at our workshops. Please feel free to leave your impression of individual artwork on our Facebook page.
